About the Counselling
Why is the Service called The Chalet Counselling Service?
A chalet, whether it is in a mountainous region or on a beach, is a place where you can rest, recover, renew your energy and find shelter and protection from stormy weather. Of course, a chalet is not somewhere you stay forever – once your time of resting is over, or you have recovered from the storm, you can work out where you are going next and how you are going to get there. Then you can move out refreshed and with a new enthusiasm for life.
At The Chalet Counselling Service, I aim to provide a safe and supportive space where you can rest and recover from the difficulties and storms of life, and move forwards with a renewed confidence, with strategies to keep you safe, and with a fresh outlook on your life.
How do I work?
I offer medium to long-term counselling with individual adult clients.
I offer face-to-face counselling sessions in Coleraine, Co. Londonderry, N. Ireland, and online counselling sessions to clients who live anywhere within the United Kingdom.
Please see my short video in the "About Me" section.
I offer an Initial Session free of charge so that you can find out if working with me is what you would like to do, and I can find out a little about you and your circumstances.
I use an Integrative Model of Counselling which means that I draw on various approaches to counselling to help us understand your situation and to find positive ways of moving forward. I believe that, in general, where you are today may be in large part a result of your childhood and upbringing and so I will explore these with you. I work in a gentle, collaborative and holistic way, looking at your emotional and rational responses to your past and current circumstances, as well as looking at your relationships, your physical well-being, and, if desired, the spiritual aspects of your life.
I work according to the Ethical Principles set out by the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and will discuss issues of confidentiality and data security at the first session. I have worked with individuals from various backgrounds, cultures and religions, and those with no religion. The counselling will be reviewed regularly to ensure that it is meeting your needs and that you are achieving your goals.
